14th ISPCAN European Regional Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect

by / Thursday, 16 July 2015 / Published in Events

In recent years, 25 years after the adoption of CRC, Eastern and Western Europe have built their integrated child protection systems and developed their violence prevention strategies based on common principles but with different community, family and institutional traditions. In spite of the progress in both Eastern and Western Europe, as well as in the whole world, data accumulates showing that children continue to be victims of violence, and exchanges are crucial for eradicating it. Therefore the well balanced and high quality scientific program of the conference, as well as the prestigious key-note speakers will target collaborative ways to prevent violence against children.

Romania has been part of a huge international solidarity movement to change its child protection system and has gradually evolved from low quality residential care to community services for children and families, with the bold future plan to close its residential units. Therefore, as well as the formal conference programme, we shall give you the opportunity to participate in field visits to see how programmes for the prevention of child abandonment have been developed and look at services addressing the inclusion of Roma children in schools to prevent early school leaving. The Youth Forum will also have the opportunity to listen to Romanian children’s opinions about violence and its prevention. The master class and the special interest groups will give more opportunity to discuss and build networks.
